Virtual Eagle Run 2020-2021

What is Eagle Run?

The Eagle Run is Jacob Wismer’s ONLY fundraising event of the school year. Students raise funds through flat  donations or per lap pledges, and in a typical school year, they then take to the track to walk, run or jog with  their classmates, teachers and grade level peers. Eagle Run is a school-wide event that brings our Jacob  Wismer community together in support of students and staff. It is a fun-filled day for all to enjoy.

Virtual Eagle Run 2021

As COVID-19 continues to keep students’ home, the future of our school has never felt so unpredictable.  Despite these difficult times, our PTO and Eagle Run team have decided that this year’s Eagle Run must go on,  even from a distance. Our main objectives will be to bring our school community together, give our students and  staff something exciting to look forward to, and raise important funds for our school. With the understanding that  times are difficult, our fundraising goal this year is to raise over $75,000.

Why is Eagle Run important to Jacob Wismer?

Eagle Run is the sole provider of funds that our school needs to support vital PTO programs that directly benefit  our kids. 100% of the funds raised are invested in enhancing the educational experience of our students  through PTO funded initiatives that include:

How Do I Register My Student(s) and Raise Funds?

Parents/Caregivers are asked to register their students online using PledgeStar. It is our easy to use web-based fundraising system that makes it simple to request pledges from family and friends at home and around the world. Anyone can make secure online donations using a credit card and all contributions are tax deductible under IRS Code 501 (c) (3) to the extent permitted by law.  Collection  envelopes will NOT be sent home this year, but any cash or checks received can be dropped off at  the school office. PledgeStar will track each students’ progress, notify you when a pledge is made, and allow Eagle Run volunteers to share classroom and school-wide progress.

To Register and Use Our Online Fundraising Tools:

  • Go to – www.pledgestar.com/jacobwismer
  • Click “Not Registered For This Year’s Event”
  • Enter your name and email address
  • Click “Submit”
  • Follow the instructions on-screen to register students

NEW this year, every student registered will receive an Eagle Run bracelet and Goody Bag, so please  be sure to register! Remember, the more emails you send, the more opportunity we have to reach our  important fundraising goal!

What are the Fundraising Goals?

This year, our school wide goal is to raise over $75,000 and with your help, we can get there. We are asking each student to set a personal goal of $120, which is as easy as asking 10 friends for $12!

In order to make things exciting for students, we have secured some incredible prizes from local sponsors. Students will have tons of opportunities to win prizes and most importantly, every student will receive an Eagle Run bracelet and goody bag. Our goal is to make Eagle Run fun and memorable for all our hardworking students, staff and JW families!

Check back soon for more information on incentives and prizes!

How Can I Double My Donations?

Corporate Matching Programs are a great way to double your donations and further help us reach our goal. Many companies provide matching funds and/or volunteer hours for direct donations of time or money to the Jacob Wismer PTO. For a list of companies that offer matching donations, click here.

**IMPORTANT REMINDER**: Please make sure that when you are choosing the charitable organization on your employer site when requesting your donation be matched, that you look at the entire name of the organization.  Often times, donors are quick to choose the option “Jacob Wismer Elementary School” instead of “Jacob Wismer Parent Teacher Organization” or “Jacob Wismer PTO”.  Although our school will still receive the funds, they will NOT be directed to PTO programs and will NOT be counted towards your child’s personal or class goal to earn prizes.

Columbia Matching:
Employees must submit a copy of the official receipt of their personal donation to communityrelations@columbia.com for corporate matching consideration. Please maintain the original receipt for your personal tax records. CSC will match these donations twice annually (June and December).

How can I sign up to Volunteer?

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we will not have volunteers participate this year. We hope to see as many of you as possible back next year!

PledgeStar: Frequently Asked Questions

If my children have a combined PledgeStar account, how do donations get split?

The donations will be divided equally between your children under the same household. For example, if you donate $200 and you have two children, each child will receive credit for $100.

Can my children each have an individual PledgeStar account?

Yes, but you will need to create an account for each child with a separate/unique email address.

I have already donated once through PledgeStar and would like to donate additional money. Why won’t the website let me donate again? How can I make an additional donation?

PledgeStar does not allow you to donate more than once to reduce the number of duplicate payments made in error. You have two options: 1) You can send in a check or cash through your Eagle Run collection envelope (extra envelopes are available in the office) or 2) send yourself a new PledgeStar request to a new email address.

Tax Receipts

Will I receive a tax receipt for my donation?

All donations $25 and above will receive a tax receipt.  If you donate online via PledgeStar, your tax receipt is emailed to you in an auto-generated Thank You message from the child to which you donated.

I dropped my donation off at the school office. When will I receive a tax receipt?

We wait until all donations have been received (around mid-May). Then we will print out all tax receipts at once and send them home either by mail or via your students’ classroom packet pickup. All donations $25 and above will receive a tax receipt.
