Volunteer Appreciation

***Due to the school closure, all volunteering recognition for 2019-2020 must be carried out at a distance or online.  We are so grateful to all our hardworking volunteers!  If you would like to recognize a volunteer who has made exceptional contributions to our JW community, please nominate them for the Joyce Richards Spirit of Volunteering Award (form below)!

The Joyce Richards Spirit of Volunteering Award

Each year at Jacob Wismer, a special volunteer is honored by receiving The Joyce Richards Spirit of Volunteering Award.  This award is presented at the annual Jacob Wismer Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon, usually held in the late Spring.  All JW volunteers are invited to this event (see below).

Joyce Richards was a very special volunteer at Jacob Wismer. Her wonderful spirit, contributions, and the special connections she made with the students and staff exemplifies the true purpose of volunteerism.

Nominations

We are now accepting nominations for the Joyce Richards Spirit of Volunteering Award.  This award recognizes the extraordinary efforts of the parent volunteers within our Jacob Wismer community.  Nomination forms can be emailed to president@jacobwismerpto.org, or a fillable form is located below on this page.  The deadline for all submissions is Monday, May 18th.  Completed forms should be turned in to the drawer in the front office.  Please contact Sonia Lall with any questions at president@jacobwismerpto.org.

Nominations are accepted each spring for volunteers that most exemplify the attributes that Joyce possessed throughout her life. The Nomination Committee reviews all applications based on the following criteria:

  • The nominee has inspired others to cheerfully volunteer his/her time and energy to school activities. By attitude or deed, the nominee has exhibited creativity, enthusiasm, leadership and responsibility and has encouraged these attributes in others.
  • The nominee has selflessly worked to contribute to an enriching experience for the students at Jacob Wismer Elementary School. Relevant criteria in this category would include the love of working with children, a “can do” attitude, an ability to successfully accomplish tasks, and a willingness to serve where and when needed.
  • The nominee has shown exceptional volunteer spirit through a wide spectrum of activities in the Jacob Wismer School community.

Nomination forms will be available in the spring and can be found in hard copy next to the volunteer check-in computer in the front office.

Volunteer Luncheon

In addition to the presentation of the Joyce Richards Award, all Jacob Wismer volunteers are invited as guests to attend the Volunteer Luncheon. This is an event hosted by the JW Staff for all of the JW volunteers. This is the opportunity for the Staff to provide a fun forum to show their appreciation to all of the volunteers. Be sure to mark your calendars for this fun event!  (*This is event is cancelled for the 2019-20 school year.  However, we want to make sure all our volunteers know how much we appreciate them. We are working on ways to acknowledge all our wonderful and devoted volunteers!)
