PTO Board – Roles and Responsibilities

President

As PTO President, you are the liaison between the PTO and the school principal and administration. You will preside over monthly PTO meetings and be responsible for compiling and executing the agenda at those meetings. You are an integral part of setting the school activity calendar for the upcoming school year and preparing any applicable building use online applications that aren’t otherwise prepared by the chairs. You will preside on two committees: the PTO Alumni Scholarship committee and the Joyce Richards Volunteer Award committee. You will also be involved in preparing and approving the PTO budget and deciding on funds distribution to the staff and school as funds permit. Being PTO president is an amazing opportunity to be involved in all aspects of the PTO and school community, which ultimately operate as a cohesive unit.

VP of Fundraising

As PTO Vice President of Fundraising you will work with all committee chairs that raise funds for our PTO – this is really an exciting position as you get to see first hand how the funds help our school provide enrichment activities and much more to our school.  The biggest Fundraiser (and hopefully will remain our only BIG fundraiser) is Jog a thon.  This is such a fun time, as the whole Jacob Wismer community is involved!  You get to help coordinate ideas, procure prizes and be a general support for the co-chairs.  Other smaller fundraisers our school participates in are Restaurant nights, Box Tops, Gift Cards, Spirit Wear, Directories, and Shopping Days.  As VP of Fundraising, you will work along side the committee chair in each area as a general support in helping raise funds for our school!

VP of Community Events

If you enjoy the Jacob Wismer events like our Dances and Author Visits, then this would be a great job for you!  You will help coordinate and support the committees in charge of putting on these wonderful events.  This is a great way to be involved, and you will have the support of the many wonderful volunteers at Jacob Wismer who help to implement our community events and programs throughout the year.

Secretary

As PTO Secretary, your main jobs are to record and distribute meeting minutes for the monthly PTO meeting, as well as prepare, edit and send the bi-weekly PTO Newsletter (you will get most content from the volunteer chairpersons of events and programs.).   You will also be responsible for keeping the PTO website current.  This is a great job for someone looking to get involved and help keep our wonderful parents and community updated about the happenings in the PTO!

Volunteer Coordinator

As PTO Volunteer Coordinator, you work with all the PTO committees, parents and teachers to connect volunteers with volunteering opportunities. Your main job is to be the administrator for the MyVolunteerPage system that is used by the Beaverton School System. As administrator, you will create Pink volunteer badges for each volunteer who clears the Beaverton background check. The MyVolunteerPage is a great way to communicate to the parent community when there are volunteer opportunities. As volunteer coordinator, you get to meet all our WONDERFUL parent volunteers and see first-hand how Jacob Wismer flourishes due to all the help from parents. If you are organized and like to help many of the volunteer groups in the school, this job is for you.

Member-At-Large

As the PTO Member At Large, your main job is to organize the orientation for  new families at the beginning of the school year. It gives the very rewarding opportunity of welcoming the the new families at Jacob Wismer, introducing the PTO board members to them and being there to help facilitate their smooth integration into our school. This is an especially appealing PTO position for those with limited bandwidth as the majority of the responsibilities surround the first couple of weeks after school opens.
